If you are new to my blog, I have a section on my website that I dedicate to telling my Ozempic story and how the medicine has helped me with lowering my glucose levels, as well as losing some extra weight.
This post is my Week 38 update. If you would like to read about my journey from the beginning, please click here.
If you would like to browse some other posts where I ramble on about life stories as a busy teacher and mom, here would be a good place to start.
Either way, thank you for dropping by.
Side Effects:
If you’ve read any of my other Ozempic posts, you’ve already heard me talk about the ‘Ozempic Burps.’ I had a few weeks where they seemed to have disappeared, but for the most part, they have been a continuous reality since I first started taking Ozempic.
They tend to happen more often in the morning, although I still have that ‘gassy,’ burpy feeling throughout the entire day.
A couple of days ago, I was driving to town in the morning to pick up an item for Father’s Day when I thought I may have to turn around. I had this overwhelming feeling that if I did burp again, I was going to get sick. I slowed down the truck, thinking that I may have to pull over and throw up in the ditch, but the feeling passed and I continued on my way.
If I was going to talk to someone about any side effects they may experience that would be similar to mine, it would be that there are often times when you may feel nauseous, however those times don’t typically last that long.
There’s also that other piece of just not being able to eat as much in one sitting as you used to. Our family went to Applebee’s the other night after a basketball game. I ordered chicken alfredo. I ate half and then brought the other half home.
In another situation, Brian and I went to breakfast this past week when we were out and about running errands. We each ordered an omelet that came with a side of hashbrowns and toast. I ate the toast and most of the hashbrowns, but did not eat one bite of the omelet. It looked really good. As a matter of fact, omelets are a favorite of mine and this one looked amazing, but I just was too full to even attempt it. The omelet ended up coming home with us and Brian ate it for breakfast the next day.
That’s just the way it goes now.
Sugar Levels:
Before Ozempic, it was not uncommon for me to see glucose numbers in the high 200s. I would also occasionally see numbers in the 300 range – which, if you do a quick Google search, the internet will tell you is a dangerous situation.
Yesterday’s midday number for me was 137. I was happy with that.
I recently had some bloodwork done in order to continue with my psoriasis medicine. (I’m on Taltz to treat my plaque psoriasis and it has been helping me tremendously with my skin.) When I talked with the Dr.’s office regarding my results, they said that everything came back great, but my glucose was a little high. The nurse said it was 150.
My bloodwork was done around 3:00 P.M., about an hour or so after I had ate lunch. I’m thinking that a blood sugar level of 150 would not be bad in that situation. Maybe I’m needing to change my perspective on this if the nurse believes that number is too high.
I’ve learned that Ozempic really does help me keep my glucose numbers down and manageable, however I can’t just eat whatever I want and still expect great results.
Weight Loss:
I am about half a pound lighter than I was two weeks ago when I last stepped onto the scales (-0.6). I missed last week’s weigh in because our family was Up North at our cabin.
Last week, I was able to fit into some pants that I haven’t worn in a few years. I was hesitant to try them on, and only reached for them because the pants I wanted to wear were in the washer.
It’s nice to begin to wear smaller clothes and just ‘feel’ the difference with daily life activities.
I’m not at the 40 lb loss that I wanted to be at for the beginning of summer, but I’m still slowly making progress.

Messing Up my Ozempic Schedule
This past week, I was a couple of days late with taking my Ozempic injection. We ended up going Up North for the weekend and didn’t get home until really late Sunday night. I usually take my Ozempic shot Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. Anyway, I gave myself the injection early Monday morning and just took the following one yesterday (Saturday.)
I don’t anticipate any issues with not going the full seven days between shots, but we will see.
Goals for Today:
- Weed the Zucchini & Cucumber Plants
- Fill my Squirrel & Bird Feeders
- Take a Nap
