Dear Keegan, Kaleb, & Khloe,
This is an important one, so please pay attention.
When you find yourself in a situation where you need help, or even just someone to talk to, I want you to pick up the phone (it probably won’t be far, you guys keep them close to you,) and call me.
Reba said it best when she said, “Well, back in 1876 and old boy named Bell invented a contraption that we know so well.” If you don’t want to take her advice, listen to Charlie.
I want you to call to talk and just share about your day, but I also want you to remember that Moms can sometimes help with those situations that seem ‘unfixable.’
Will I bail you out of trouble every time? Probably not.
Part of being a parent is knowing when to help and when to encourage you to fight your own battles. Regardless of the help or advice given, I won’t let you drown.
Don’t get into a vehicle with a driver who’s been drinking. Call me.
Don’t run off to Vegas and elope with someone you just met in a bar named Bambie. Call me.
If you are up at 2:00 A.M. in college, worried about failing your Chem final the next day, don’t call me. You should have studied more, but for all other things, call me.
Grandma Lovette and I used to talk every day, sometimes multiple times a day. While I know that may not be the same for us, I’m hoping you remember to occasionally call me, text me, Snap me… whatever.
Moms want to hear from their children, even when you are into the age of adulthood. You don’t have to listen to me, listen to Alan.
‘You’ll always be my baby.’
Goals for Today:
- Drink Water for the Rest of the Day (Grandma Lovette always said it’s good for you.)
- Read a Chapter in my latest J.D. Robb book
- Sit in the Cabin and Listen to the Rain Bounce off the Metal Roof
