Dear Kids,
Peer pressure is a real thing – whether you are young teen or a mature adult.
There will be times in your life when you are out with your friends, or hard at work at your place of employment, and something is happening that just doesn’t sit well with you.
Listen to your gut. It may be difficult, but speak up about your concerns and don’t be a part of something that goes against what you believe in.
At the end of each day, you want to make sure that you made choices that will not keep you up at night.
All three of you are kind, responsible human beings that are also leaders in your friend groups. It may not seem like it, but others look up to you and respect the decisions that you make.
You don’t always have to be the leader, but stay true to yourself.
If you can’t talk your friends out of making a bad choice, then leave. Do not be a part of irresponsible behavior just because ‘everyone else was doing it.’
You are better than that.
If you find yourself continuously in these type of situations, then it may be time to take a look at who you are hanging around with.
Dan Pena says, “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.” There’s something to that.
It’s hard being parents. There comes a time when we have to let go of some of the control and let each of you be in charge of making difficult decisions for yourselves.
I know you are up for the challenge.
I love you tons!
