In a couple of weeks, my kids (all three of them) will officially begin their football seasons. We have been having practices all summer, but football really begins to take more of a role in our daily lives come August.
In the spirit of the season, I found myself looking at old football videos on my phone. I came across an old favorite of mine from when the boys were in 5th grade (they are currently going into their sophomore year.) Both boys are in the video – we are on defense. You will see Keegan on the field at the end wearing #5. Kaleb is #38 and he comes across the field to make the hit.
I know that we could debate the viciousness in youth sports, and the risks of concussions and so on, but if we take that debate out, I just really love this video. It’s a perfect example of Kaleb’s ‘I don’t care, I’m going for it’ attitude.
As a football mom, I do worry about injuries. Keegan plays quarterback and is sometimes going against kids twice his size. Kaleb plays on the line and blocks for his brother. It’s always a factor, but I believe the benefits of youth sports outweigh the risks.
I’m looking forward to another football season. I’m hoping the kids continue to learn about the game and have fun. Khloe will be playing on the 5th grade team and the boys will be on Varsity, unless our Varsity team gets canceled and we only have JV. (That’s a story for a different day).
Goals for Today:
- Work on my children’s chapter book
- Take a walk
- Play catch with my kids or shoot some hoops
