We have a small place in Up North Michigan where communities with golf carts are all the rage. Our little, humble cottage is located in an Association that caters to people rambling around on golf carts, going for slow, leisurely rides after dinner. My husband and I had yet took the plunge into buying one, but that all changed last year.
Brian and I were at a garage sale down at a nearby lake, and front and center was this old, worn down, white paint-peeling, archaic looking golf cart that looked like it hadn’t started in years. I was in love and knew immediately that I wanted it.
After some quick talking on my part, and leaving the sale, then returning, we pushed the old, white golf cart up on a trailer and took her home for the low price of $400. I told my husband he wouldn’t regret it. It was an investment. He didn’t say much to me on the short ride home. He nicknamed her ‘Betty White’ because of the color and that she was an ancient thing. I loved it!

Brian took her home and then went to work over the winter rebuilding the floor under her old battery system. After some welding, and then a trip to Sam’s for six golf cart batteries, we were in business. Brian and I hauled her back Up North and then I went to work giving her a new paint job.

She needs a new cover, but overall the paint did wonders for giving her back some spunk. More importantly, she moves fairly quick for her old age (1984.)
The kids take her for occasional rides around the colony, as well as my husband and myself. At some point we will get around to replacing her cover. I also ordered a cardinal kite from Jackite.com. I have this idea that I can strap a fishing pole to the back and hang the kite so that a cardinal flies along with Betty while we take her for rides. We’ll see if that works or not. If so, I’ll post a picture.
Goals for Today:
- Cut the little maple trees out of my flower gardens
- Work in my next children’s chapter book
- Go for a golf cart ride
