I have been on Ozempic now since fall of 2023. My journey with the medication began as a way to help me control my A1C due to Type 2 Diabetes.
I’ve had ups and downs, but I am primarily happy with the results that Ozempic has given me.
I still make poor choices at times with my food choices, but all in all, Ozempic has helped me take control of my blood sugar levels.
This blog post is a review of how Week 35 on Ozempic was for me.
Side Effects:
For the majority of this past week, the side effects related to Ozempic have been minimal.
I had the occasional ‘gassy’ feelings, along with some small bouts of nausea and burping.
Then….there was Friday.
I was at school, teaching on Friday, when I started to feel like I was going to throw up a little after lunch time. I had some caramel apple salad at lunch and just didn’t feel right directly after that.
At first, I blamed it on my lunch choice, but I couldn’t figure out what would have caused me to not feel well. Caramel apple salad has Cool Whip, pineapple, dry pudding mix, and marshmallows in it. (It was leftover from a luncheon at school. I know it’s not a healthy food choice, but I had a super small bowl, plus it does contain the word, ‘salad’ in it.)
I went home after school and directly went to bed. It wasn’t long after that, and I was texting Brian to see if he could bring me a puke bowl.
My stomach was gurgling and I thought for sure I was going to throw up. I ended up in and out of the bathroom for the rest of the evening and most of Friday night. Also, the Ozempic burps were back in full force. (Ozempic burps are what I call it when the burps just roll right out of you. Plus, they don’t smell great.)
It was during one of my trips to the bathroom that I remembered I ate broccoli for dinner the night before. It has to be the broccoli that caused the Ozempic side effects to be so prevalent. I remembered that eating broccoli had a similar effect on me earlier in my journey with Ozempic.
It was a lesson learned and I will work on being more mindful of staying away from that particular vegetable choice in the future.
I never did throw up. It was an evening of not feeling well, but not something that would make me consider stopping my Ozempic use.
Sugar Levels:
Sugar levels are continuing to stay in a healthy range, despite the fact that I have Strawberry Freezer Jam in the house.
I had two times this past week where I wondered if my sugar was high. One of those times, I was at school teaching and I felt a little dizzy. When I checked my glucose level, it was 136, which is actually a good number for me.
The other time my sugar felt high was directly after I ate a PBJ sandwich. I didn’t check my sugar level at that time, but I’m assuming I was over the 200 mark.
I know better than to eat the freezer jam. It was my own fault. I stay on track most days, however once in a while I give in to the temptation of the sweet goodness. I am in no way perfect with this eating healthy stuff.
Overall, my glucose levels have continued to be very manageable.
Weight Loss:
I lost almost a pound this past week (0.8).
It’s not much, especially if you consider that I’m on a medication that is known for resulting in drastic weight loss for people.
The old me would be beyond frustrated. I have been on and off diets throughout my adult years. During many of those times, I was expecting to lose at least 5 pounds a week, sometimes more.
The new me doesn’t really worry about that. My main goal is to be healthy and happy.
I’m thinking that the turtle had the right idea: “Slow and Steady Wins the Race.”
I’ll keep plodding along, hopefully.

Increasing My Exercise/Activity Levels
I’m looking forward to Summer Break for many reasons, but one in particular is that I’ll have more time to get outside and go for walks.
I used to walk all the time. I enjoyed my treks on the country roads, waving at neighbors and just spending some peaceful time to myself.
During the school year, it’s hard to balance work, sports games/practices, and stealing time to write on my computer. Also, if you factor in other family obligations, time simply disappears. It’s often non-existent.
I’m counting down the days until Summer officially arrives, and I can rejuvenate again with time spent on my writing and more time to work on a healthier me.
Goals for Today:
- Finish Household Chores (Dishes & Laundry)
- Pack for Up North weekend
- Work on Website – I removed the random Spanish Message at the Bottom of the Pages!
