Life on Ozempic has been quite the journey. My main reason for going on the medication was to lower my A1C. A second result of the medication has been a noticeable change in my weight.
I just finished my 29th week on Ozempic.

Side Effects:
My Ozempic burps are back. I’m not sure why there are some weeks they are more prevalent than others, but I definitely noticed that side effect of Ozempic this past week.
I also experienced the nausea, but I think that I’m changing some of my eating habits unconsciously, which has resulted in a decrease in some of my stomach issues. For example, I stay away from milk and pasta now, or at least I try to. Both of those food items tend to make me nauseous right away.
I did have one evening where I wasn’t sure if I was going to get sick or not. We were having taco salads, which is one of my favorite foods. I didn’t eat lunch at work, opting instead to finish some paperwork at my desk during that time. Needless to say, I was hungry when I finally made it home that afternoon.
I made my salad, complete with taco meat, onions, chopped tomatoes, sour cream, lettuce, some crunched up tortilla chips, and a little bit of cheese. It looked so good. It was good. I ate about five bites and had to stop. My stomach started to turn on me. I grabbed a puke bowl and sat down for a little bit, hoping the feeling would quickly go away.
It took about an hour, but the sick feeling disappeared and I didn’t need to keep the bowl at my side anymore. I didn’t eat anything more right away either, just because I didn’t want a repeat performance with the whole sick feeling. I ended up saving the salad for later that evening when I felt more back to normal.
I’m not sure what caused me to become nauseous right away with the salad, but I’m guessing it was the taco meat.
Sugar Levels:
My glucose numbers are continuing to look good. I’m super curious to know what my A1C would be now that the numbers have returned to acceptable levels after the holidays.
This morning, my meter announced to the occupants of the house that my, “Blood Glucose (was) 115 milligrams per deciliter.” The meter talks to me. My last one did not. (I learned that if I don’t like the number, and think that my family shouldn’t be nosy about my blood sugar, then I can just take the little test strip out of the device. She stops talking then.)
My numbers have been consistently right where they should be lately. The Ozempic is doing exactly what my doctor and I had hoped for it to do. I couldn’t be happier.
Weight Loss:
I lost a pound this week, which was a nice thing to see on the scale. I had been moving in the wrong direction, as far as weight loss. While the weight piece has not been the number one goal with the Ozempic, I do enjoy that particular side effect of the medication.
I do need to be a little more cognizant of the weight loss piece if I’m going to lose 10-15 more pounds before summer.

Something About Spring…
There’s something about springtime that motivates me. Maybe it’s the warmer days after dreary weeks of colder weather. It could be the sound of birds, chirping away in the trees and chipmunks squeaking their way from tree limb to tree limb.
I don’t know for sure, but I do know that I’ve been smiling more often, humming to myself, and spending more time typing away on the computer. I love it.
The promise of summer months, time at the lake, and uninterrupted hours in my Writing Cabin makes me absolutely giddy. It also helps me stay committed to being healthy and active.
I’m looking forward to finishing springtime in a positive, healthy manner.
Who’s ready with me?
