It surprises me to be able to say that I’m at the 6 month mark on being on Ozempic. It definitely does not feel like it’s been that long since I began this journey. While I have experienced ups and downs since my Ozempic injections started, I’m definitely happy that I made the move to begin this medication to help lower my A1C.
Side Effects:
This past week I had a couple of times where I was extremely nauseous. Both times happened after I ate spaghetti. It’s something about the pasta that just seems to get me. I never threw up, but it’s worth noting that I was thinking it may happen.
Even after 24 weeks on Ozempic, I’m still learning that I don’t have to eat if I’m not hungry. I think it’s been ingrained in me that at lunch, you eat lunch. At dinner time, you eat dinner.
I’ve noticed over the last few months, that my husband, Brian, has been ordering less food when we go out to eat. I asked him about this and he told me that it’s because I usually end up giving him half of the food that I order.
It’s true. If I order a cheeseburger and fries at a restaurant, I will only eat half and give him the rest. If I get a salad with an entree, I have to decide which item I would like to eat the most because, the reality is, I’m not going to be able to eat it all.
The other side effects are still there: Ozempic burps, gas, occasional diarrhea. If you would like more information on those side effects, please go back and read my earlier Ozempic posts here .
Sugar Levels:
I am sticking to my goal of checking my sugar at least twice a day.
I usually check my sugar level right away in the morning. Lately, my numbers have been in the low 100s, or even in the 90s, which is super exciting for me.
When I get home from work, I usually check my sugar right before I eat dinner. I’m very happy with numbers that I’ve been seeing. Yesterday’s afternoon number was in the 130s, which is exactly where it should be.
Ozempic is helping me control my diabetes, and that’s the main goal of this whole journey.
I have come to realize that I can’t, however, just eat what I want and take the weekly injections and hope for the best.
It takes a combination of eating healthy, along with taking the Ozempic, for me to see positive results.

6 Months on Ozempic
I think back to that day where I was sitting in my doctor’s office, facing another high A1C number. The discussion we were having revolved around the idea that I knew what to do and how to eat, however I wasn’t having any success.
“Ashley, how about we try Ozempic,” said the doctor.
“I’ve heard of it,” I replied. “Do you think it could help?”
“Let’s try it and see.”
The doctor then gave me all the information about known side effects, both positive and negative.
I left that appointment with a prescription, as well as beginner dose that they had stocked in the office.
The appointment gave me hope. I feel like it was the day that started me on the right track to become a healthier person.
I’m glad I took that step 6 months ago.
Goals for Today:
- Take a Nap
- Clean the Kitchen
- Cook a Healthy Dinner
