I’m in Week 19 now with my Ozempic journey. It feels as if I’m settling into how my body is going to react to the medicine, and understanding just what to expect.
This blog post recounts my experiences in the past week. If you’d like to read about my journey from the beginning, you can find the link here for all of my previous Ozempic posts.
Side Effects:
Two weeks ago, I had my first 2 mg dosage of Ozempic. Prior to that, I had been taking a 1 mg injection per week. I dealt with a fair amount of nausea after that increase, threw up, and generally just did not do well the first few days after that dosage.
This past week, I did a couple of things different and was pleasantly surprised with how my body reacted.
I changed my injection day from Thursday to Friday. I figured this change would help me at work on Friday so that I wasn’t having terrible stomach issues during the work week.
The other thing I did differently was that I made sure to not fill up on food right before I took my medication. As a matter of fact, on Friday, I ate a cucumber for lunch, some popcorn at the basketball game that night, and about a 1/4 cup of chili right before the injection. (Kaleb was eating chili and it looked amazing. I couldn’t help but try some.)
Some people may say that I should have ate more on Friday and that it would be difficult to go the whole day on a cucumber and a half bag of popcorn. The truth, however, is that I wasn’t hungry so it really wasn’t a chore to eat a small amount that day.
I was prepared to have a restless night Friday after I gave myself the shot with the 2 mgs of Ozempic.
It didn’t happen. I did not have any queasiness whatsoever.
I felt empty, but not really hungry.
Let’s talk about the eating thing.
I’m still eating plenty, otherwise I would see more of a weight loss than what I’m experiencing. Also, this doesn’t feel like a diet. I’m not consciously trying to stay away from food.
I’ve done the diet thing (many, many, times) where you limit your caloric intake so much that if feels like you are trying to starve yourself.
My experience with Ozempic is that, while I may go long periods without eating, it doesn’t feel like I’m limiting myself because my stomach feels full.
I know we are told that it is best to eat three meals a day, or 5 small meals, spread throughout the day to help curb your appetite, however if your body is okay with eating just once or twice, isn’t that okay?
I don’t want to eat just because it’s time to eat.
Ozempic is definitely changing my mindset on how I think about food.
Sugar Levels:
I made a goal to start checking my sugar levels at least twice a day and I’ve been sticking to it.
My sugar was 112 this morning, which is phenomenal for me. I checked it again right before I sat down to write and I was at 126. I couldn’t be happier.
Occasionally I’ll eat some M&Ms at school, or maybe a Hershey’s bar while watching Keegan play basketball, but otherwise I’ve been better with watching my food choices.

Noticing the Results!
Sometimes it seems to take forever before you finally begin to notice results when starting a new regimen. I’m not sure if I’m speaking too soon, but things seem to finally be clicking together.
When my sugar is high, I will have headaches and my face will feel hot. That hasn’t been happening nearly as often as it used to. My sugar level is beginning to feel as if it’s in control.
While weight loss is not my primary goal with the Ozempic use, I’m definitely beginning to see the results from eating less as well.
Yesterday, I was noticing that the rings on both of my hands were loose. Along with that, a couple of my shirts haven’t been as tight as they typically are. I’ve made it to the 20 lb mark and I’m hopeful I can loose 20 more lbs before summer.
I guess the only thing I can do is keep working at it.
This is my Weight Loss Tracker that I’m using to help track my progress:
Goals for Today:
- Work on Organizing China Cabinet
- Add to my Goodwill Pile
- Take a Nap
