Last week was our annual family vacation to Rice Lake, Canada. I had every intention of sitting on the cottage balcony overlooking the water and writing an Ozempic update, however that did not happen.
What did happen was fishing, food, fun, and of course, relaxation. If you would like to read more about my trip, you can click here and check it out. Otherwise, just know that I didn’t always behave, food wise. (Otherwise, I was an Angel, minus a few choice words I had for some Jet Skiers who were zooming too close to my boat.)
This particular post is my Week 42 Ozempic update. If you would like to read about my journey from the beginning, please click here to access all of my Ozempic posts.
Side Effects:
The number one side effect for me these past two weeks has just been the quickness with how full I become.
While we were in Canada for vacation, I had poutine from one of the local Chip Wagons. If you don’t know, poutine is a serving of fries, smothered in gravy and cheese curds. Brian bought me an order and I asked him if he was going to get some as well.
“Nope,” he replied. “I doubt you’ll finish yours so I’ll do it for you.”
“Are you kidding? I’m hungry and you are not getting my poutine.” I squinted my eyes at him as if in a dare to even try and snatch one of the glorious fries from my take-out box.
Well…. about 10 minutes later as we are driving back to the cottages, Brian smiles as I take longer and longer breaks between bites. I finally admit defeat, close the lid of the carton, and tell him he can eat the rest back at the lake.
It sounds weird, but it almost makes you angry. Can I get poutine back in Michigan? Not where I’m from, you can’t. I’ve been looking forward to eating at a Chip Wagon since last year and now I can only eat half of my order. Sure, I could save them. Put them in the fridge at the cottage and warm them later, but that almost defeats the purpose with fries. It’s not the same.
Oh well, I guess that’s why people lose weight on Ozempic.
Other side effects: burping, gassy stomach, and some nausea.
In my last Ozempic post, I did mention that I have thrown up while on Ozempic. It’s not a common occurrence for me, however if I had continued to eat the entire portion of poutine, I very well may have been sick.
You learn to eat in smaller increments while on Ozempic. Also, I avoid cereal and milk, as well as pasta and broccoli.
On the handful of times I have thrown up, it’s a quick experience and I feel better fairly quickly after the incident. It’s not like when you are sick with the flu. At least, that is how it has been with me.
Sugar Levels:
My glucose levels have been anywhere from the 120s to 170s for the past two weeks. I haven’t seen any numbers lately in the 200 range, although I’m sure there were times my sugar was high directly after eating. Likewise, there were times I thought for sure I’d be closer to the 100 mark, however I was typically closer to the 130s and 140s.
I need to schedule an appointment with my doctor sometime to see if my A1C has dropped from the last check-up. I can’t see how it wouldn’t be better. It really feels like Ozempic has definitely helped me in that area as far as supporting me with my Type 2 Diabetes.
Prior to taking Ozempic, I used to feel sick all the time, especially in the early morning hours as I was beginning my work day. I never knew what was wrong until I randomly stopped at a pharmacy and bought a glucose meter to check my sugar. It’s been almost a year since that day when I sat in the parking lot and read a number in the 300s for my sugar. Mind you this was in the evening when my last meal had been around lunch time.
I feel like a whole different person since that day. I have the Ozempic side effects, and sometimes they can seem harsh, but it’s nothing compared to how sick I used to feel before realizing I had an issue with high blood sugar.
Weight Loss:
I seemed to eat a lot of food while on vacation last week. We made homemade pizza one night, grilled out a couple of nights, made malteds at least two of the nights, and I ate poutine – twice.
Did I mention homemade mac & cheese?
There was also a lot of time in there where we spent hours out fishing, not eating. It was just a different type of eating than normal. More like ‘Vacation Eating.’ (You can tell from my food choices, I’m not trying to diet too hard.)
Since we’ve been home, I’ve ate a lot less, mostly because of the heat and I’ve just been busy with getting back into the routine of things. Also, I’m sure Ozempic plays a role.
Regardless of all of these things, the scale showed that I’ve lost exactly one pound since my last weigh in two weeks ago. Knowing how my vacation eating went, I’m happy with that.

Enjoying Summer
I’m healthier than I have been in a while. I’ve been outside more often due to the sunny weather and just mainly due to summer time activities. Also, my clothes are baggier and I have less headaches than I have had in the past.
Overall, life has been positive and things are going well.
Before I end this post, I do have a series inquiry that has been on my mind since our time in Canada.
I mentioned that we made ‘malteds’ a couple of times while on vacation. The mix we use is Carnation Malted Milk. We blend this with milk and vanilla ice cream.
Growing up, our family would occasionally have this as a treat, and we always referred to them as ‘malteds,’ never ‘malts.’ I mean, it makes sense. We were using ‘Malted Milk’ mix.
Are we the only family that refers to them this way? Also, on a side note, there’s a huge difference between shakes and malteds. You can’t even compare the two. Malteds are the clear winner.
I’m just curious. Let me know what you think. Or just disregard my ramblings. Either way, I’m good.
