It has been eight months since I began my Ozempic journey. This has definitely been the longest time period that I have tracked any health/weight loss progress.
There have been ups and downs, along with a feeling of just being ‘stuck’ in the same place.
This post marks 33 weeks on Ozempic for me.
Side Effects:
There are weeks that the Ozempic side effects seem very prevalent. There are other times when I can’t even tell I’m on the medication.
This past week was one of those weeks.
For those of you who may have missed some of my other posts, I’m currently taking 2 mg of Ozempic each week. I give the injection to myself in the stomach, which is virtually painless and not at as scary as it may sound.
It seemed like I was starving all week. I didn’t have that feeling of ‘fullness’ that I’ve found is typical with Ozempic. Along with that, I didn’t have many ‘gassy’ episodes, or obnoxious Ozempic burps. At times, it felt almost as if I wasn’t on the medication at all.
I’m wondering if this is in part because I stay away from certain foods now. While I didn’t always make great eating choices this past week (I’ll tell more of this below in the Weight Loss section), I do generally avoid milk and cereal, pasta, and fast food. Regardless of the reason why, I almost miss the side effects sometimes. At least when I’m a little queasy or full after a few bites into a meal, I know the Ozempic is doing its thing.
Sugar Levels:
I started on Ozempic for the sole reason of helping me control my Type 2 Diabetes and lowering my A1C.
Diabetes has not been a life-long thing for me. I was only diagnosed with the disease about 2 years ago when I noticed how thirsty I was and was having headaches at night. When I finally put two and two together, I bought a glucose meter to check my sugar. I remember sitting in the parking lot of a local pharmacy and reading the number on the machine in the 300s.
Fast forward a few weeks and I found myself at my doctor’s office, getting bloodwork done and learning about which foods to eat that would help me lower my A1C.
I had some success and some setbacks, mainly around the holidays. When I voiced my frustration in myself with the doctor, she suggested we try Ozempic.
That was 33 weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier that we decided to begin Ozempic.
I’m continuing to take my blood sugar levels twice a day. They have been manageable and in the 100s despite my ‘not so great’ eating habits.
The worst time of the day for me would be night time. I tend to eat chocolate before bed. Brian started buying me sugar free chocolate, which is okay, but not the same.
Despite my late night chocolate cravings, my sugar levels have been pretty good.
Weight Loss:
I ate ice cream this week. I also ate baked potatoes (with butter and sour cream, of course) and some really great strawberry jam sandwiches. They were amazing.
Am I really trying hard to lose weight? Not exactly. (This is probably why I gained a pound since my last weigh-in.)
What I am doing, however, is keeping at it. I may not be taking the weight loss thing seriously enough, but I am continuing to weigh in and track any progress, or lack thereof, that happens.
I call that a win.

Still Plodding Along
I take my Ozempic once a week, without missing a dose. I’ve been tracking my sugar levels, as well as working on being more active now that the weather is warmer. (You will notice I did not say that I’m making healthier food choices, because let’s be honest, I’m not there yet with the eating healthy.)
The essential thing to focus on is that I’m 33 weeks into this journey and still going. I may not be sprinting in a race to be healthy and enthusiastic about everything still, but I’m plodding along and that’s what is important.
Goals for Today:
- Spend 20 Minutes Weeding Flower Gardens
- Spend 20 Minutes in the Laundry Room – Organizing Shelves
- Take a Nap
