Just when I think that I’m doing better with staying on track, I have a bad ‘eating period’ that increases my blood sugar level. This week I had a couple of those incidents, but otherwise, everything went well.
Side Effects:
This past week was the first time in the last four months where I thought Ozempic may not be for everyone.
Thursday evening I started to have some rumblings in my stomach. Basically, I was feeling ‘gassy.’ I was also having those vomit burps. I was watching my son play basketball and enjoying myself, but I could tell I was experiencing some side effects from the Ozempic, if that makes sense. It wasn’t anything that would have had me leave the game, but I was aware of it more than normal.
Friday morning came and it happened to be a ‘Snow Day.’ Being a teacher, I was home from work. I was still experiencing the gassy feelings and I was nauseous more than usual. I ended up working at my computer, however I stayed close to the bathroom because I felt like I was going to throw up. It’s a good thing I did, because I ended up getting sick. After I threw up, I felt fine.
I truly feel that my stomach issues this past week were not caused by anything else. It wasn’t the flu or something I ate.
Beyond the above information, the only other side effect I continue to feel is the overwhelming feeling of being full all of the time. I can be starving and haven’t ate all day, then sit down to my favorite meal and only be able to eat a few bites or maybe half of what I used to eat.
This is both exciting and frustrating at the same time.
Sugar Levels:
This past week, I ate a bowl of cereal that I didn’t need. The Kellogg’s Special K Banana Creme cereal tastes amazing. I absolutely love it, however, I probably shouldn’t eat it at night with my 2% milk. (I may or may not have added a teaspoon of sugar. Actually, let’s be honest here, I did add it, but I didn’t think it would be a problem. I was wrong.)
I started to feel a headache coming on and thought I’d check my sugar. It was 335. This number is the absolutely worst number I’ve seen in a while. When am I going to learn my lesson?
I have a doctor’s appointment next week to check my A1C. I’m excited, but also a little nervous. We’ll see how it goes.

Any Regrets Starting Ozempic?
Even though I had my first bout of sickness that I’m attributing to Ozempic, I’m still happy that I’m on the medication. I’m continuing to see small gains with weight loss, as well as good blood sugar levels – when I behave myself and not add sugar to my cereal.
Thanks for joining me on my journey!
A year or two ago I created a Weight Loss Tracker and uploaded it to Amazon. I am back to using it to help me track these first 12 weeks of 2024. The following image is a link if you would like to try it yourself.
