Ozempic has been helping me become a healthier version of myself.
My primary goal when first starting on Ozempic was to help me control my Type 2 Diabetes. My A1C was not in a healthy spot and my doctor suggested I try Ozempic. I’m glad I did.
This post is an update on Week 44 of my Ozempic journey. If you’d like to read about my experience starting from the beginning, please click here.
Thank you for following along as I work to change my unhealthy habits.
Side Effects:
Last week, the primary side effect I was experiencing was the burping. This week, it’s been more of a queasiness and feeling of being full, or more to the point, times when I knew I couldn’t eat anything because I thought I may get sick if I did.
I went Up North with my dad this past week. He enjoys going out to eat – daily. I found that if I went with him, ordered an omelet, ate that and the accompanying toast, I was full for most of the rest of the day. (I’m going to confess – I put strawberry jelly on the toast. It’s a weakness of mine.) I could eat a sandwich in the evening and I was good.
Dad and I had another day where we were traveling and stopped at a restaurant to order lunch. A chicken sandwich sounded good, so I ordered the chicken basket that came with fries. I ate the fries, but couldn’t even think about touching the sandwich. I brought it home with me and warmed it up later for dinner. Before Ozempic, I would have had zero problems munching my way through the entire meal.
Ozempic changes all of that.
I did have one more time this past week worth mentioning that relates to Ozempic. I was out with my husband, Brian, and the meal we ordered came with a serving of broccoli. It was beautiful, cooked perfectly, and just looked so tempting. (I love broccoli.)
I didn’t touch it. For some reason, since I’ve started on Ozempic, broccoli and I do not go well together. It’s not worth the risk because I remember all too well the stomach issues I went through last time I gave in and had some.
Sugar Levels:
Last week I did not do well checking my sugar levels. This week, I’m back on track with poking my finger at least twice a day.
The numbers have been consistently in the low to mid 100s, which is a constant surprise to me. It is such a change from the high numbers I was seeing before I started on Ozempic.
I have a doctor’s appointment scheduled in the next month to see what progress I’ve made with my A1C number. I’m looking forward to seeing what the results will be. I’m hopeful it will go well.
Weight Loss:
I lost a pound this past week. It’s good that it’s a loss, but to be honest, I don’t really feel like I’m getting anywhere.
I’ll keep plodding along, I just wish I could have a three pound loss, or a four pound loss. Oh well. I guess a pound is a pound and I should be happy that it’s something in the right direction.

What’s the End Goal With My Ozempic Journey?
I’m wondering if my incredibly slow weight loss progress is a result of not really having an end goal to work towards.
My true focus has been the diabetes. Seeing those glucose numbers in the 300s at the beginning of this journey scared me into action, which resulted in taking Ozempic.
Beyond the diabetes, I’m also optimistic about the the side effect of losing weight due to the medication. I’m overweight and have been most of my adult life. It effects me both mentally and physically.
I had a goal of reaching the 40 pound weight loss mark at the beginning of summer. Well… summer is almost over and I’m officially at -32 pounds.
I believe it’s time for me to come up with an end goal for the weight loss portion of this journey. (My diabetic goal would be for me to be at a healthy enough A1C long enough, that I’m not considered diabetic anymore.)
As far as my weight, I’m thinking 60 pounds sounds like a good number to try and lose. It would put my weight in an average goal weight for my height, and also would be my lowest weight since college – about 20 years ago.
I’m going to write that goal on my bathroom calendar to remind me to stay focused and not rely on Ozempic to do all of the work.
I have to do my part as well.
Goals for Today:
- Vacuum
- Clean the Bedroom
- Play Basketball with the Kids
