Keegan, Kaleb, and Khloe,
Your dad and I pushed you to do your very best in school. If we expected A’s, it’s because we knew you were capable of getting A’s. (All three of you are pretty smart. You must take after your mother.)
We also taught you about responsibility, good work ethic, independence, and to stand up for what you believe in.
If you decide after college that you would like to travel to Alaska and become a deep sea crab fisherman, and you can pay your bills by doing so, then go for it.
You only live once.
If you would like to move to Hawaii and open a surfboard shop on the beach, by all means do so. I’ll come and visit.
If Vegas catches your eye and you become passionate about dealing blackjack on the strip – let’s talk first. But if, after our discussion, it’s clear that a ‘career path‘ in the gambling industry can sustain a reasonable lifestyle, I’ll fly with you and help move you in.
You do you. Chase those dreams and take the risks.
Now… saying this, I would like you to find a career that pays well. Those people that tell you money isn’t important – well, they are lying. Money is very important.
But so is passion, excitement for living, and dreams.
Dreams are crucial.
Just because society says certain careers are better than others, doesn’t mean they are right for you.
I’m willing to go as far as to say that there’s a small chance that college may not be the best path as well. It depends on your dreams.
To sum things up, don’t listen to all the static. Listen to your heart, but make sure your wallet isn’t hurting as well.
Your dad and I will support you, even if it means Christmas in Vegas.
Love you,
Mom
