Keegan, Kaleb, & Khloe,
I know that my adult life is full of responsibilities – as it should be. Your dad and I have bills to pay and we work tirelessly to create the best life possible for our family.
It should not be the same for you right now.
I’m watching all three of you navigate school, sports’ schedules, and even part-time jobs. Life can be hard for kids, and I think adults sometimes forget this. Not only do you have the normal stresses that schoolwork and sports can bring, there’s also a social factor that you have to balance and maneuver on a daily basis.
Good grades are important, but they aren’t everything.
Making money is important, but you have the rest of your life to work.
Your dad and I let you attend the overnights with friends because we want you to have those times now when you are young.
Do we stay up all night with worry, hoping that the midnight drive to Taco Bell doesn’t end with a carload of teenagers hitting a deer?
Yes.
Do we worry that if alcohol is brought to the house, that you will remember to make the right decision and be able to stand up to peer pressure?
Yes.
We also limit some of those experiences because of the risks involved.
This doesn’t mean we don’t want you to enjoy those experiences that seem to be part of a well-adjusted teenager’s life.
We just hope you are being safe, as well as responsible.
Have fun. Be a little crazy at times. Be respectful and mindful of your actions.
We love you,
Mom
