    Weekly A1C/Ozempic Updates

Side Effects:  The only real side effect from the Ozempic that I can think about right now, is just the overwhelming feeling of being full. It’s such a weird feeling after having lived most of my life feeling hungry throughout the day.

This past month has been full of Holiday Foods. There have been Christmas cookies, 7-layer desserts, cheeseballs (I love cheeseballs,) and every other comfort food you can think of. I’ll be hungry and ready to eat, but then after a few bites, I end up pushing my plate back and just can’t eat anymore.

“What’s wrong with the food, Mom?” asks Kaleb. “How come you are not hungry?”

“I was a little bit ago, but now I just can’t do it,” I reply.

I’ve got to admit, it’s a tad frustrating at times to be ready for a favorite meal and then only take a few bites, but I shouldn’t complain. The Ozempic is doing what’s promised by curbing my appetite. I’ll take advantage of it as I use the medicine to lower my blood sugar levels.

Sugar Levels:  With Christmas, came stockings and presents. Presents meant boxes of chocolate, Mike & Ikes, and carmel corn. My willpower is short and so I’ve been snacking on food that I have no business eating with diabetes.

The other night, I noticed that I was very thirsty – so much in fact that I decided to check my sugar. It was 281. That was the highest that I’ve seen in awhile. Yesterday I had a cup of hot chocolate, a rather large cup. I checked my blood sugar and it was 269. That’s my fault, not the failure of the medicine.

I need to get back on track with eating the foods that I know are good for my sugar levels.

Weight Loss:  I weighed in yesterday and was happy to see that I was down -3.4 lbs. I’m getting close to the 20 lb mark. The weight loss piece to the Ozempic has always been second to the lowering of my A1C. I need to put a little more effort, even just a smidge of an attempt, into eating correctly and I could make better gains in that area.

    • Week 1: -4.5 lbs
    • Week 2: –1.5 lbs
    • Week 3: -1 lb
    • Week 4: -2.8 lbs
    • Week 5: -1.6 lbs
    • Week 6: +1 lb
    • Week 7: +1 lb
    • Week 8: +/- 0 lbs
    • Week 9-11: – Didn’t Weigh In
    • Week 12: -3 lbs
    • Week 14: -3.4 lbs
    • Total Lost: -15.8 lbs

Would I Start This Journey All Over Again?

I’m more than happy with how things are going while being on Ozempic. The upset stomach issues can be somewhat difficult to navigate, especially early in the morning, but it’s definitely worth the rewards of the medicine. I also enjoy seeing my blood sugar levels continue to stay down (when I’m not eating junk food.)

While I realize that the weight loss is not the reason I started on Ozempic, I do believe that I’m going to enjoy the impact the medication has on that part of my life as well. Hitting the 20 lb weight loss milestone will be exciting. After I achieve that, it will be interesting to see if I can continue to lose weight.

I hope you follow along with me on my journey.

A year or two ago I created a Weight Loss Tracker and uploaded it to Amazon. I think I’m going to get that out and use it for the New Year. Hopefully it will help keep me on track.

    Goals for Today:

    • Write Down Measurements on Body Chart
    • Drink More Water
    • Stay Away From the Hot Chocolate
